Taylor Swift talks 'Red' success and supporting the East Coast - See video
Taylor Swift might have walked away from the 46th annual CMA Awards empty handed but the 22-year-old singer has a lot to celebrate this week after her latest album, "Red," sold 1.2 million copies in its first week.
OTRC.com caught up with Swift just before the award show on November 1 and spoke to the singer about the success of her album and her support of the East Coast following the damage from superstorm Sandy.
"I don't know what it is about this record that made it sell 1.2 million records in one week. I think it's the fact that the fans decided that they wanted it in their lives as soon as it came out," Swift said. "I am so happy that they're embracing the new direction I'm taking my music, the chances I've taken musically."
"It's just unreal that they just went out and bought that many copies of it. That's crazy," she added.
"Red" is Swift's fourth studio album and it was released on October 22. She performed her second single off the album "Begin Again" at the award show.
The singer also talked about the devastating superstorm that hit the East Coast over the weekend which killed at least 91 people and caused significant damage to New York, New Jersey and other parts of the northeast. Swift spent the early years of her life in Reading and Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, as well as many summers in New Jersey.
At the beginning of the CMA Awards, Jason Aldean dedicated "The Only Way I Know" to New York and New Jersey. Host Carrie Underwood asked the audience to donate to the Red Cross to help the relief effort.
"I spent my summers growing up going to the Jersey Shore and I think that you know if you can donate whatever you can to the Red Cross, it would be so appreciated to everybody whose there that's struggling trying to rebuild their houses and their lives," Swift said. "I think it's amazing that so much of the show is being dedicated to supporting the East Coast."
