Taylor Swift wore a sparkly, black dress with a short, flared skater skirt and black, striped tights while rocking out in Times Square in New York City on Tuesday, October 23, during a mini-concert featured on ABC's "Good Morning America" to promote her new album, "Red."

The 22-year-old singer sang her new single "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" as well as the new track "Red" and the song "Love Story," from her 2008 album "Fearless." Her new record was released on October 22 and is currently No. 1 on iTunes.

"That song is just one of the ones that just happened accidentally," Swift told E! News. "We were writing a different song completely, and in walks this guy who I had heard of but I'd never met. He was a friend of my ex's. And he walks and he starts talking to me, like, talking about my ex. Like, 'It's so great to meet you. I finally get to meet you. So-and-so has been talking about you a lot. Heard you guys are gonna get back together.'"

"And after he leaves, I went on this rant," she said. "I'm like, 'We are never getting back together! We fought all the time! We broke up! We got back together! This is exhausting. We are never getting back together.' And I ran and grabbed the guitar and just be like, 'We are never ever...' and I was like 'Is that too obvious?' and it turned out it's not too obvious."

Swift, who is known for penning songs about her ex-boyfriends, has not revealed who the subject is in "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," which is currently No. 14 on the iTunes singles chart and No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. She is currently dating Connor Kennedy, the 18-year-old grandson of Robert F. Kennedy, and has in the past been linked to musician John Mayer and actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

"For me, music is my way of understanding what I'm feeling," Swift said on "Good Morning America." "I don't really talk about my love life. I kind of sing about it a lot because I really think that it sounds more poetic and romantic about it with music behind it."
