Taylor Swift opens up about dating: 'I don't have a boyfriend'

10/19/2011 by Kristina Lopez

In the past, Taylor Swift has had high profile relationships with actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Taylor Lautner and singer Joe Jonas. Now, the 21-year-old says she's currently single and learning to be on her own.

"I don't have a boyfriend," Swift said during her appearance on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Wednesday, according to People magazine. "I don't even have, like, kind of a boyfriend. I don't have someone that I'm texting that is a guy that someday might be my boyfriend. There's like nothing going on right now."

Swift was also linked to "Glee" actor Chord Overstreet in February 2011. The actor is currently dating Emma Roberts.

"If you're the girl that needs a boyfriend, and once she loses that boyfriend needs to replace it with a different boyfriend, it's just this constant stream of boyfriends all the time," Swift told DeGeneres. "I don't feel like I ever want to be that girl."

She added, "I want to be the girl that when she falls in love, it's a big deal and it's a rare thing."

Swift has hinted about her past boyfriends in songs she's written on several albums. The 21-year-old singer allegedly penned a song about John Mayer on her recent album "Speak Now". Swift sings about her heartache at a man named John in a song called "Dear John."

Mayer collaborated with Swift on his song "Half of My Heart." The two have never confirmed a relationship.

The lyrics of "Dear John" go: "Dear John / I see it all now that you're gone / Don't you think I was too young / To be messed with / The girl in the dress / Cried the whole way home / I should've known. It was wrong / Don't you think nineteen's too young / To be played / By your dark, twisted games / When I loved you so."

"Everything that happens to me gets put into a song," Swift told Glamour magazine last year . "For some reason, I'm really comfortable talking about my personal life in songs. There, I don't hold back: names, dates, times, expressions on people's faces, exactly where we were and how it felt, what I wish I would have said to them in the moment."

Last week, Swift was named 2011 Billboard Woman of the Year for outselling any other artist in the past 12 months. The singer will receive an official award for the honor at the 2011 Billboard Women in Music event on December 2.

At 21, Swift is the youngest artist to receive the honor. Her third studio album "Speak Now," which was released in October 2010, has sold over five million copies, including one million in its debut week.

The singer has largely spent most of 2011 on tour for the album. She was snubbed from the 2011 Grammy Awards and did not receive a nomination. Swift does however, already have four Grammy Awards to her credit.
