Taylor Momsen, Jessica Szohr leaving 'Gossip Girl' as series regulars
Taylor Momsen and Jessica Szohr will not be returning to "Gossip Girl" as series regulars when the CW drama series begins its fifth season in the fall, OnTheRedCarpet.com has confirmed.
The show mostly deals with the love lives of members of Manhattan's young "elite." Momsen, 17, plays outcast Jenny Humphrey, the stepsister of Blake Lively's character, socialite Serena van der Woodsen. Szohr, 26, portrays Brooklyn native Vanessa Abrams, who was often looked down upon by her female peers.
A source close to the show confirmed to OnTheRedCarpet.com on Tuesday, May 10, that Momsen and Jessica Szohr will not return as series regulars.
Lively, Leighton Meester, Ed Westwick, Chace Crawford and Penn Badgley are set to reprise their roles as van der Woodsen, Blair Wardorf, Chuck Bass, Nate Archibald and Humphrey's brother Dan. Momsen and Szohr may make guest appearances.
Meanwhile, Kaylee DeFer, who plays van der Woodsen's cousin Charlie, has been promoted to series regular, the Los Angeles Times said. The CW network has not made an official announcement about the casting changes.
Momsen, who has been keeping busy with her band The Pretty Reckless, has had a diminished role on the current fourth season and Szohr's character has left New York.
Prior to starring on "Gossip Girl," Momsen played Cindy Lou Who in the 2000 film "'How the Grinch Stole Christmas" and the president's daughter in the 2002 movie "Spy Kids 2: Island of Lost Dreams". She has not filmed anything aside from "Gossip Girl" in recent years.
Szohr began her on-air career in 2003 and starred in small films and on shows such as "What I Like About You" and "That's So Raven." She played Laura on the series "What About Brian" in 2007 before she was cast in "Gossip Girl."
Szohr has been keeping busy with her movie career and recently filmed"Art Machine" with Joey Lauren Adams, "Love, Wedding, Marriage" with Mandy Moore and James Brolin, "Hirokin" with Wes Bentley, "I Don't Know How She Does It" with Sarah Jessica Parker and Pierce Brosnan.
She is also set to star in the film "Wanted Dead" with Christian Slater, which is set for release on November 15.
