Taylor Lautner: 'Abduction' 'stretched me'

09/23/2011 by Corinne Heller

Taylor Lautner says filming "Abduction," his new action film, "stretched" him emotionally and physically despite his previous experience with martial arts.

The 19-year-old actor rose to fame playing the werewolf Jacob Black in the "Twilight" films. In "Abduction," which hit theaters on Friday, September 23, Lautner plays teenager Nathan Price, who discovers his baby picture on a missing person's website. His character then goes on the run from government agents while trying to find out the truth of who he is.

The movie also stars Lily Collins, the 22-year-old daughter of musician Phil Collins, as Price's love interest and neighbor, Karen Lowell.

"I love the 'Twilight' franchise and Jacob Black, but as an actor, I want to challenge myself to a wide variety of roles and genres and that's why I was so attracted to this," Lautner told OnTheRedCarpet.com about "Abduction." "The role is something completely different. It stretched me emotionally, physically."

"We wanted to make this movie feel as grounded and real as possible," added Lautner, who has who has studied karate since he was a child. "I have a crazy boxing scene with my father in the movie. That's really us duking it out."

Jason Isaacs, famous for dark roles such as Lucius Malfoy in the "Harry Potter" films and Captain Hook in the 2003 movie adaptation of "Peter Plan," portray's Price's father.

Another scene involved a dangerous vehicle stunt. Lautner said he had to "negotiate" to be able to perform it himself.

"At first, they were like 'No way we are throwing you on the hood of this truck. No way,'" he said. "Somehow I made it happen."

Isaacs said Lautner could be the next big action star.

"He's one of the most physically-gifted, prodigiously-talented gymnasts, athletes, I've ever met and I've worked with Jackie Chan," the actor told OnTheRedCarpet.com about Lautner at the "Abduction" premiere in Los Angeles earlier this month."
