Tara Reid wears coral gown, talks 'absurd' Sharknado' (Video, poll)
Tara Reid wore a neon coral asymmetrical gown to the premiere of "Sharknado," the SyFy Original Movie that received a limited theatrical release due to its popularity.
The film, much like many of the cable channel's B-movie-type flicks, boasts an over-the-top plot and a cast of 1990s stars. "Sharknado" is about sharks who get sucked up into waterspouts and kill people in Los Angeles.
"When I first read [the script], I thought, 'Oh my God, you've gotta be kidding me,'" Reid, 37, told OTRC.com. "That night, I went out to dinner with some of my friends and I told them what the movie was about and everyone was laughing so hard at the table. And they were like, 'Oh, Tara, you have to do this movie.'
Reid, known for the "American Pie" movies, stars with Ian Ziering of "Beverly Hills, 90210," John Heard, who played the father in the "Home Alone" films, and Cassie Scerbo of ABC Family's "Make It Or Break It." They all attended the premiere on Friday night in Los Angeles (see more PHOTOS).
Following its TV premiere on July 11, "Sharknado" became a trending topic on Twitter. More than 1.3 million viewers tuned into the movie, which received a 0.4 rating among adults between ages 18 and 49. However, an encore broadcast on July 18 was watched by 1.9 million people, while an additional one on July 27 received a 1.4 rating and 2.1 million viewers.
A "Sharknado" sequel is in the works and is expected to be released in 2014.Reporting by Karl Schmid, correspondent for the syndicated entertainment show "On The Red Carpet" (check for local TV listings). The series is produced by KABC Television near Los Angeles.
