"Taken 2" is still captivating audiences in its second week at the box office.

The thriller scored the No. 1 spot at the weekend box office narrowly beating the high profile new film "Argo." "Taken 2" earned an estimated $22.5 million over the weekend, according to The Associated Press. The haul raises the film's domestic box office total to $86.8 million for two weeks in theaters.

The movie sees Neeson reprising his role as retired CIA agent Bryan Mills, whose daughter has been kidnapped. The sequel also stars returning actresses Maggie Grace and Famke Janssen.

"Argo" landed in second place for the weekend, opening with $20.1 million. The film, which Ben Affleck directed and stars in, is based on the true story about a CIA operative who concocts a plan to rescue six Americans hiding in Tehran after the 1979 U.S. embassy takeover by disguising them as members of a fake movie crew.

Although the horror film "Sinister" lead the box office on Friday, the Ethan Hawk film ended up opening in third place for the weekend with $18.3 million. The movie, which is about a true-crime writer who gets caught up in a supernatural horror story, was written and directed by Scott Derrickson ("The Exorcism of Emily Rose") and produced for less than $3 million.

"Hotel Transylvania" continued to have a strong hold at the box office. The animated family movie, which features the voices of Adam Sandler and Selena Gomez, finished the weekend in fourth place with $17.3 million. In three weeks the film has earned $102 million domestically.

"Here Comes the Boom," the latest comedy from former "King of Queens" star Kevin James debuted in fifth place for the weekend. The movie, about a teacher who becomes involved with mixed martial arts, earned $12 million.
