'TRON: Legacy' wins box office weekend; 'How Do You Know' falls short
It has been over 20 years since the original 'TRON' film was released in theaters and its sequel proved to be a box office champ.
The film, which stars Jeff Bridges, Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund, took in $43.6 million over the weekend, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The biggest disappointment of the weekend seems to be the weak eighth place finish of the star-studded romantic comedy "How Do You Know". The collective star power of Reese Witherspoon, Jack Nicholson, Owen Wilson and Paul Rudd failed to help the film perform successfully at the box office. The movie earned $7.6 million over the weekend.
"Yogi Bear", which features voices by Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake, debuted in second place with $16.7 million. Meanwhile, last weekend's winner, "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader", came in third place. The 3D family friendly film earned $12.4 million for its second week in theaters.
Golden Globes buzz and a wider release to more theaters helped "The Fighter" bump up its box office haul. The boxing film starring Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, and Amy Adams landed in fourth place with $12.2 million.
Rounding out the top five is a tie between the Disney Animated feature film "Tangled", a retelling of the classic "Rapunzel" fairy-tale starring Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi, and "The Tourist" with Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp. Each film earned $8.7 million for the weekend.
