Suge Knight arrested for outstanding warrant
Rap mogul Marion "Suge" Knight was arrested on an outstanding traffic warrant as he left a restaurant near Universal Studios outside Los Angeles, reports The Associated Press.
Los Angeles County Sheriff Sgt. Shawn Ruda tells the wire service Knight was released about an hour after his arrest early Saturday. Knight was stopped by deputies, who ran his name through computers and discovered he was wanted on a minor traffic warrant issued recently in Beverly Hills.
Knight was brought to West Hollywood, where he was cited and released, after agreeing to appear in court within two months. Ruda tells the Associated Press that Knight, who has a long arrest record, was not doing anything wrong when he was stopped, and agreed to talk to the deputies.
In May the former CEO of Death Row Records, who helped launch the careers of rappers Tupac Shakur, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, was arrested and charged with assault with a deadly weapon involving a firearm and with driving under a suspended license.
In August 2008, Knight was arrested on drug and assault charges in Las Vegas. When police arrived on scene, they said Knight was holding a knife standing over his girlfriend and had punched her in the head.
Knight was also jailed in 2003 for several months for violating parole by punching a parking valet at a nightclub in Hollywood. He has also served time in prison for violating probation on assault charges stemming from a fight at a Las Vegas hotel in 1996. Hours after the fight, Shakur was shot and later died.
