Steven Tyler in drag auditions for 'American Idol' - See video
Aerosmith frontman and former "American Idol" judge Steven Tyler made a surprise appearance on the reality competition program during the Oklahoma City auditions, which aired on Thursday, January 31.
The singer showed up dressed as a woman, complete with a blonde wig, lipstick, animal print dress and heels. Video of his audition can be seen below.
The "Dude Look Like a Lady" singer appeared in front of the new judging panel, which includes rapper Nicki Minaj, country singer Keith Urban and Mariah Carey.
Tyler claimed his name was Pepper and he said he was going to sing "Tell Your Ma, Tell Your Pa Our Love's A-gonna Grow Ooh-wah" which is actually a lyric from the Bob Dylan song "Talkin World War III Blues." However, he just ended up evaluating the new judges.
"The roosters may crow but the hens deliver the goods, you know what I'm sayin'," he said. "Do I go through to Hollywood or what?"
Tyler then ripped off his wig and threw a sock that was stuffed in his chest to Randy Jackson.
"I just wanted to come by and say hello everybody. I love you. Good luck with this year," Tyler said. "I tried so hard. No Hollywood."
Tyler initially had an issue with Minaj being picked as a judge for the show. The singer previously commented to MTV in a story published in November 2012 about his time as an "American Idol" judge and made a reference to Minaj which suggested the rapper would not have approved a contestant if he were like Bob Dylan.
Tyler later apologized publicly to Minaj when he appeared on the Canadian television show "eTalk" and said according to a video from the interview posted by TMZ, "No, it was a moment, you know. I apologize if it was taken wrong Nicki."
The 64-year-old singer appeared on the hit Fox series for seasons 10 and 11 alongside fellow judges Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez. In July 2012, both Tyler and Lopez announced that they would be departing from the popular singing series.
