Stephen Dorff: I think the 'Immortals' director is a visual genius (Video)
Stephen Dorff was taxed with promoting the epic adventure film "Immortals" before he'd seen it from start-to-finish, but the actor seemed confident that director Tarsem Singh created something fantastic.
"I think Tarsem's a real visual genius," Dorff told OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish at the Los Angeles premiere of "Immortals" on November 7. "I'm excited to see it all put together tonight, but from what I hear, it's quite something. As long as it delivers to those fans, I mean that's why you make these kinda big movies. I'm excited for that."
The action film follows Greek peasant-turned-warrior Theseus (Henry Cavill), who was secretly chosen by Zeus to save his people from King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and his army of Titans. Theseus gathers a band of outsiders to aid him, including visionary priestess Phaedra (Pinto) and cunning slave Stavros (Stephen Dorff).
Singh is best known for his work on "The Cell" and "The Fall." He is also directing the upcoming Snow White film, "Mirror, Mirror," which stars Lily Collins, Armie Hammer and Julia Roberts.
"I think it's pretty inventive probably, with the technique and 3D technology. I think Tarsem really goes for it. It won't be one of those movies in 3D that doesn't deserve to be in 3D. I think this one was made for it, so maybe it will be good!"
Much of the cast detailed the brutal training required to portray gods and warriors and Dorff was not left out of the ordeal.
"I didn't have much of a costume," Stephen Dorff told OnTheRedCarpet.com at Comic-Con in July. "I had leather pants and a strap thing, so I had to hit the gym a lot or it would have been the end of my career, I think."
Dorff is best known for his work in films like "Blade," "Public Enemies" and "Felon." He recently appeared in Sofia Coppola's "Somewhere" and in the comedy "Bucky Larson: Born to Be a Star."
The actor is currently filming "Boot Tracks" opposite Michelle Monaghan and Willem Dafoe. In the film, Dorff portrays a recently released prisoner who is seeking revenge for his jailhouse mentor (Dafoe) with the help of a streetwise lady (Monaghan).
