Soundgarden releases 'Live to Rise' music video from 'The Avengers' (Video)

05/03/2012 by Olivia Allin

Soundgarden debuted the music video for "Live to Rise," the lead single from "The Avengers" soundtrack and the first track to be released by the grunge band in 15 years.

The music video features the band playing in a warehouse, in front of a glowing blue orb, which is cut with clips from the upcoming blockbuster film.

The single, which is slated to play during the end credits of the Marvel film, was first released on April 17. It was available to download for free on iTunes during the first week after its release. "The Avengers" hits theaters in the United States on Friday, May 4, and has already made $281 million abroad.

"In this day and age, you don't have the monolithic record company with seemingly limitless resources and multimillion-dollar profits. They don't exist. Which is why a partnership like this exists," Soundgarden front man Chris Cornell told the Hollywood Reporter. "The movie company does have that, and they will promote it. It's the only way to get your music in front of people -- that and the age-old way of getting out there and playing."

"The Avengers" features characters from the "Iron Man," "Thor," "The Incredible Hulk" and "Captain America" together. Scarlett Johansson reprises her role as Natasha Romanoff / The Black Widow, from "Iron Man 2," while Downey Jr. returns as Tony Stark / Iron Man. Jeremy Renner plays Clint Barton / Hawkeye and Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury. The film also stars Colbie Smulders of "How I Met Your Mother" as Maria Hill, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who works closely with Nick Fury.

Soundgarden rose to fame in the 1990's grunge scene with songs like "Spoonman" and "Black Hole Song." They broke up in 1997 due to creative differences, but reunited in 2010 and have been working on a new album, which is slated for release later in the year.

The single will not be part of the band's upcoming album, but appears on "Avengers Assemble (Music Inspired by the Motion Picture)," which is available on iTunes and also includes songs by Rise Against, Bush, Papa Roach, Black Veil Brides, Evanescence, Buckcherry, Shinedown, Scott Weiland, Redlight King, Pusherjones, Five Finger Death Punch and Cherri Bomb.
