"You don't have to pretend to laugh at her jokes, even if you do have to make a concerted effort to pay attention to them. And though you'd never think it to look at her, Vergara is mother to a 20-year-old."

SOFIA VERGARA 'NEVER WANTED TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY
Vergara has in the past also been featured on Maxim magazine's "Hot 100" list and has also been named one of People magazine's "Most Beautiful" people. The actress told OnTheRedCarpet.com in December that chose comedy acting because she "never wanted to be taken seriously."
However, Vergara has been honored for her television work. She was nominated for two Emmys and two Golden Globes for her role as the second, younger wife of extended family patriarch Jay Pritchett, played by Ed O'Neill, and mother of Manny Delgado, played by Rico Rodriguez, on "Modern Family." The ABC comedy series has won two Emmys for Outstanding Comedy Series.
'Modern Family' has been the best thing that has ever happened to me, professionally," Vergara told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "I've had the career that I never, ever, even dreamed about, even though it was hard because of my accent and because of the way I look. I really, really have to be thankful."
O'Neill is also known for his previous role as sexist, grumpy patriarch Al Bundy on the sitcom "Married With Children." Vergara spoke at his Hollywood star ceremony on Aug. 31, 2011.
"When I was in Colombia and I was a young, very beautiful girl, I would watch 'Married With Children' and I would see Ed sitting with his hands in the pants and talking with this very sexy Antonio Banderas accent because in Colombia, it was dubbed into Spanish,"Vergara told the crowd at the event. "To marry Al Bundy has been one of the most joyful things in my whole life," she said.
Vergara, a native of Colombia, moved to the United States in the 1990s. The actress, who has six siblings, brought her brother Julio to Miami with her after their other brother, Rafael, was killed in a botched kidnapping.
Before "Modern Family" debuted in 2009, Vergara had small parts on shows such as "My Wife and Kids" and "Entourage" and played the recurring role of Sofia Montoya on the show "Dirty Sexy Money" in 2007.
In 2011, Vergara appeared in the movie "The Smurfs" as French cosmetic executive Odile and also had a part in the romantic comedy "New Year's Eve." This year, she can be seen in the 2012 film adaptation of the "Three Stooges" comedy franchise (watch the trailer).
Vergara recently appeared at the 2012 Screen Actor's Guild Awards in Los Angeles, wearing a raspberry-colored, fishtail-style, silk satin crepe gown by Marchesa and Lorraine Schwartz jewelry. (See more photos from the event).
Vergara was nominated for an award for Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series but lost to Betty White, 90, for her role in the TV Land show "Hot In Cleveland." (See a full list of SAG Award winners.)
