'Snow White and the Huntsman' sequel in the works
Kristen Stewart will be reprising her princess warrior in a sequel to "Snow White and the Huntsman," it was announced on Thursday.
Universal Studios has already put David Koepp to work writing a script for the film and is in talks with director Rupert Sanders to return, after making his feature directorial debut with the first film. According to Deadline, the cast of "Snow White and the Huntsman" have options for two sequels.
"If we find a story that is better than this one, then we'll do it," Sanders told OnTheRedCarpet.com last month. "I don't think we would do something half-baked just for the sake of it. All the actors here are very busy, they don't need to commit to something unless they really love it . If we don't come up with something we really love, we won't do it."
In "Snow White and the Huntsman," Charlize Theron plays a power hungry queen whose youthful looks and magic are threatened by her stepdaughter Snow White (played by Kristen Stewart) who will one day be "the fairest of them all." The Evil Queen sends a Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth) to track down Snow White in the dark forest, but he ends up teaching Snow White to protect herself. Sam Claflin is the prince in the fairy tale and is Snow White's childhood love.
"If it does as well as we think it's going to do, and people seem to love it, it's all pointing in the direction [of a sequel]," Hemsworth told OnTheRedCarpet.com in May.
"Snow White and the Huntsman" was released on June 1 and has made more than $71.4 million in the United States and a total of more than $118 million worldwide.
Sam "Prince Charming" Claflin said he would look forward to going head-to-head with the Huntsman for Snow White's affections in a sequel.
"I think I'd kick his ass," Claflin told OnTheRedCarpet.com last month. "Have you met Chris? He's a little tiger, no koala bear. I'm the tiger. I'm the underdog and I think that's what's special."
