Shiri Appleby, 'Roswell' star, engaged to chef Jon Shook

"Roswell" actress Shiri Appleby got engaged to Animal owner and chef Jon Shook.

Appleby told Us Weekly that Shook proposed during the couples trip to Ventotene, Italy in July. Shook proposed with a 2.5 carat Itay Malkin engagement ring.

"One second you're having lunch, the next you have a ring on your finger," Appleby, 33, said of the surprise engagement. "I was like, 'I want to slow this moment down.'"

The actress and the 31-year-old chef have been dating for two years. Shook, who also owns Animal's fish-based restaurant Son of a Gun, joked about how he knew Appleby was the one.

"When I am cooking at home, I have a couple rules. Keep it fast and not a lot of dishes," Shook tells Us. "I knew Shiri was a keeper because the first time we cooked together she washed the dishes."

Appleby is currently filming an arc on HBO's "Girls." She rose to fame portraying Liz Parker on "Roswell" and has also appeared on "ER," "Life Unexpected" and "Dating Rules for My Future Self."
