Shakira shares baby bump photo, hosts virtual baby shower with UNICEF
Shakira took to her social media accounts on Wednesday, January 16, to show off a new baby bump picture with boyfriend Gerard Pique and invited her fans to attend an online baby shower she's hosting in conjunction with UNICEF.
"We'd like to celebrate the imminent birth of our first child with all of you. #babyshower," the pop star wrote on Twitter.
The Tweet also links to a website that calls the event "Shakira & Gerard Pique's World Baby Shower." The couple requests that in lieu of gifts, guests donate money through the UNICEF site to help babies who live in extreme poverty.
Through the donations, the children will receive vaccines, food, mosquito nets and other important supplies. Guests can donate anywhere from $5 for mosquito nets to $110 for therapeutic food.
The couple also appear together in a video, which can be viewed below, featured on the site asking for the donations. Shakira has been an ambassador for UNICEF since 2003.
"To celebrate the arrival of our first child, we hope that, in his name, other less privileged children in the world can have their basic needs covered through gifts and donations," reads a message from the 35-year-old Colombian superstar and Pique. "Thank you for sharing this unforgettable moment with us.
Shakira first announced her pregnancy in September. It will be the first child for the 35-year-old singer and 25-year-old Pique. Shakira and Pique, who is a central defender for Futbol Club Barcelona, have been dating for about two years but didn't confirm the relationship until March 2011.
