"The Descendents" star Shailene Woodley is reportedly in talks to star in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." The 20-year-old actress would star opposite fellow Golden Globe-nominee Andrew Garfield in the film, as his character Peter Parker's red-headed love interest, Mary Jane Watson, according to Variety. Shailene's rep had no immediate comment on the report. In "The Amazing Spider-Man," Peter Parker (Garfield) goes in search of clues that might explain what happened to his parents, who disappeared when he was young. His search brings him to Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner. The film brought in an impressive $751 million worldwide. Garfield and director Marc Webb have both officially signed on for the upcoming sequel. "We could not be more confident in the direction we are taking this new Spider-Man storyline and we are tremendously excited to be ramping up production again with Marc at the helm and Andrew continuing on as Peter Parker," president of Columbia Pictures Doug Belgrad said in a statement obtained by OTRC.com. "We can't wait to share what we have in store for Peter and Spider-Man with audiences worldwide." Emma Stone is also expected to reprise her role as Gwen Stacy, who in the comic books, is killed by Spider-Man. Mary Jane and Peter Parker's relationship grows when she comforts him following Gwen's death. "Essentially the argument is that Spider-Man kills her by accident," Stone told director Cameron Crowe for Interview magazine. "So the person she loves is the person who kills her, which is the most horrifying thing. Apparently people unsubscribed to the comic book when that happened because they were just so flipped-out over it. But, of course, I want to stay true to that." Stone and Garfield have been romantically linked since June 2011, when they met during a screen test for the superhero movie. "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is slated for release on May 2, 2014 and production on the film is not scheduled to begin until early 2013. According to Variety, Electro is rumored to be one of the villains who will appear in the second installment of the rebooted franchise. Woodley is also for her role as Amy Juergens in the ABC Family series "The Secret Life of the American Teenager," which will end after its current fifth season. The actress was nominated for a Golden Globe for her role opposite George Clooney in "The Descendents," where she portrayed the actor's troubled daughter. Garfield has appeared in films like "The Other Boleyn Girl," "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and "Never Let Me Go." The English actor was nominated for a Golden Globe for his role "The Social Network."
