Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller talk 'Spectacular Now': 3 highlights
Shailene Woodley and Miles Teller star together in the upcoming film "The Spectacular Now" and the two talked to OTRC.com recently about signing on for the film and their chemistry.
Teller stars in the film as a high school senior named Sutter Keely who is the life of the party and has no plans for his future until he meets Aimee Finicky, a good girl played by Woodley.
Teller, 26, and Woodley, 21, also showed of their playful sides to OTRC.com correspondent Jacob Burch during their interview. The two actors will also appear alongside each other in the upcoming film "Divergent," due out in March 2014.
Check out three highlights from our time with them below and watch the full interview above.
1. Why they signed on for the film.
"It was the best script I had ever read," Teller said. "I was happy to be a part of it. Very proud of it. Probably most proud of anything I've ever done."
"I mean the screenplay blew me out of the water. It was one of those scripts that sort of took you on a journey and effected you on a deep level, which doesn't happen that often," Woodley added.
She later said, "You know, I grew up on the 'Goonies' and 'Breakfast Club' and movies like that aren't being made anymore and even though this is a little bit different, maybe even more real than some of those films, the tone is the same, and the way that the characters are treated is the same, and so yeah it's such an honor to be part of it."
2. They developed their chemistry "pretty quick."
In the film, the two share a love scene and Teller revealed, "The love scene in particular, that was our first time doing that, so that could have been -- and I didn't know Shailene that well at that point. I think that we developed chemistry pretty quick, 'cause we met and then a week later we were filming."
3. Teller scares Woodley a little during the interview.
Burch asked the two about a phrase in the movie that talks about living in the now and Woodley began to answer and said, "It is important to live in the now because I am a firm believer anything can happen at any second and you never know who you're gonna meet ..."
Teller then shocked her with a little scream.
"I don't like that ..." Woodley said with a smile before she continued her answer with, "who you're gonna meet, or what you're gonna do, but it's important to know that there's a tomorrow for moments like that!"
"The Spectacular Now" hit theaters on Aug. 2. Check out the trailer below.
