Seth Rogen won't star in 'Rock of Ages' - guess why
Seth Rogen has no plans to star in a film adaptation of the Broadway musical "Rock of Ages," despite recent speculation.
"I can't sing," Rogen, 28, told OnTheRedCarpet.com in a recent interview to promote his new film, "The Green Hornet," which is set for release on Friday.
Constantine Maroulis, an "American Idol" finalist, currently stars in a national tour of "Rock of Ages, which incorporates popular hits from bands such as Journey, Whitesnake and Damn Yankees. Preliminary casting lists and industry reports had named Rogen as well as Tom Cruise as potential actors in a 2012 film. Cruise has not confirmed the reports
"The Green Hornet" is based on radio, comic book and television serials. Rogen shed about 30 pounds to play main character Britt Reid, the playboy son of a wealthy newspaper publisher who inherits a media empire after his father dies. Rogen debuted a slimmer figure at the recent Los Angeles premiere for the movie.
In the film, Reid enlists the help of Kato, an employee in his company, to become the crime fighter known as the Green Hornet. Diaz, 38, plays Lenore Case, his sexy secretary. Christoph Waltz of "Inglourious Basterds" fame also stars as the villain Benjamin Chudnofsky, a Russian gangster.
"Most people don't know very much about it so we really had to do it in a way so that we were kind of reintroducing it - if you knew nothing, we wanted to provide you with everything you needed and just make an interesting movie," Rogen said. "At the same time, if you're a big fan of it, we wanted to include a lot of refererences and things to the previous incarnations of it."
