Seth MacFarlane talks hosting 'Saturday Night Live' - See promos
Seth MacFarlane is gearing up for his big debut as a host on "Saturday Night Live" on September 15 and the writer, director, voice actor and singer teased in a recent interview that he might sing.
When asked why he took on the hosting job, MacFarlane told The Associated Press on Tuesday, September 11, "When things come up, I tackle them if they sound fun. That's how I decide what to do and what not to do. It's what sounds like it's going to be a good time."
"They asked me," he added. "It's the kind of thing you don't say 'no' to if you're in comedy."
MacFarlane is known for creating "Family Guy," "American Dad" and "The Cleveland Show." He provides voices for several characters on the series and he also wrote and directed his first feature film "Ted," which he also provided a voice for.
"It's always a nice break to NOT be the guy in charge," he told the wire service. "It's the complete antithesis of the nine months it takes us to do one episode of an animated series."
MacFarlane's first show also marks the "Saturday Night Live" debut for singer Frank Ocean, who will be the musical guest for the episode. Ocean released his critically acclaimed studio debut album "Channel Orange" in July.
When asked if there was a shot MacFarlane, who released a big band/ jazz standards album in 2011, would sing on the show, he said, "Possibly...but it's too soon to tell."
The show recently revealed three new series regulars. Aidy Bryant, Tim Robinson and Cecily Strong have officially signed on to join the sketch comedy series this fall as "featured players."
In addition, it was revealed Jason Sudeikis will return for another part of the season.
In June 2012, it was confirmed that cast favorite Andy Samberg, along with Kristen Wiig, would not be returning in the fall. Elliot confirmed her departure in August.
It was also revealed that the show will also have a new person playing President Barack Obama. Although Fred Armisen has been playing President Obama since 2008, cast member Jay Pharoah will take on the role. Pharoah is known for his Denzel Washington, Will Smith and Jay-Z impressions on the program.
