Selena Gomez's music video 'Love You Like a Love Song' debuts - watch
Selena Gomez's new music video, "Love You Like a Love Song," debuted on Friday and as promised, did not feature pink-tinted horses.
In the video, the 18-year-old pop singer appears in a Japanese karaoke bar, on a pink beach with a long-haired man playing a sitar, on a screen dressed like '80s cyberpunk icon Max Headroom, wearing a powdered wig befit of the Classical music era, riding in a vintage car with cat eye classes and 50's attire and in a purple field hitting a piñata with a Mariachi band.
The music video set drew controversy earlier in the month after the rock singer Pink, a PETA supporter, then Tweeted: "If there are any animal activists around Malibu- at Leo Cabrillo State Beach, there are horses being painted for a stupid music video. Shame."
Gomez was reportedly unaware that there would be painted horses on the set and it was announced that the animals would not appear in the final cut of the video.
E! News quoted Gomez's representative as saying that "no animals were harmed and all proper precautions were taken" during the shoot and that "a nontoxic, vegetable-based powder paint was applied via an airbrush and removed with water. An official from the Humane Society was on set supervising."
The single was released on June 21 and is featured on the singer's third studio album, "When The Sun Goes Down," which hits stores a week later. Gomez is also currently promoting her new film, "Monte Carlo."
Gomez was recently hospitalized after feeling unwell following an appearance on NBC's "Tonight Show" to promote her new projects. The singer said days after the incident that she was "feeling much better." Gomez's new album, her third major record, hits stores on June 28. She told OnTheRedCarpet.com recently that the album "kind of represents where I am in my life."
Gomez has been dating pop star Justin Bieber, 17, since late 2010. The two drew the wrath of some of his fans when they stepped out together at the 2011 Academy Awards in February. Many posted nasty comments and even death threats against Gomez on Twitter.
Gomez is known for her role as Alex Russo on the Disney Channel series "Wizards of Waverly Place" and has starred in films such as "Ramona and Beezus," which was released last year.
"Monte Carlo" is due to hit theaters on July 1. The film tells of three young women who visit Paris and end up in Monte Carlo after one of the girls, played by Gomez, is mistaken for a British heiress. The movie also stars "Gossip Girl" actresses Leighton Meester and Katie Cassidy as well as "Glee" actor Cory Monteith.
