Selena Gomez was 'nervous' to meet 'Monte Carlo' co-star Leighton Meester (Video)
Selena Gomez is set to show off her acting skills by playing dual roles in "Monte Carlo" however, the actress says that what made her nervous about the film wasn't the task of playing two characters but rather meeting her "Gossip Girl" co-star Leighton Meester.
Gomez, 18, admitted to OnTheRedCarpet.com host Chris Balish in a satellite interview that she was excited at first to meet Meester but "I was very nervous too because she plays Blair very well."
On the popular CW drama, Meester stars as the manipulative socialite Blair Waldorf opposite Blake Lively's Serena van der Woodsen.
"She's the best. She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met," Gomez added.
Meanwhile, Meester -- who describes Gomez as "talented," "poised and gracious" -- says she was happy to meet Gomez because her younger sister is a fan.
"I have a 12 year-old sister and she's very knowledgeable about 'Wizards of Waverly Place' and everything that Selena has done. Sings all her songs and loves her," Meester, 25, told Balish. "So she was really excited about that so I got excited. But her turning out to be such a wonderful woman was a lovely, pleasant surprise. "
"Monte Carlo" tells of three young women who visit Paris and end up in Monte Carlo after one of the girls, played by Gomez, is mistaken for a British heiress. The movie also stars Katie Cassidy, daughter of singer and "Partridge Family" actor David Cassidy, as well as "Glee" actor Cory Monteith.
"I play two characters in the film. I play Grace, who is a girl from Texas who is trying to be the best she can be and wants to get out of her small town," Gomez said. "Then I also play Cordelia, who is a British heiress and she is awful. She is very evil and very fun for me to play."
Gomez adds that the film's audience will get a little taste of every film genre. "Basically the movie is just a mixture of a romantic comedy and an adventure, coming of age story and mistaken identity," she said.
"It was so fun. It was like a vacation. It was filming in the most beautiful locations," Meester said. "Off set we got to go shopping and eating and gallivanting around. It was just amazing. "
The actors filmed the movie across several locations including Paris and Monte Carlo. Gomez, who is reportedly dating singer Justin Bieber, says that she tries to surround herself with people who understand her jet set lifestyle.
"I think it's good to surround yourself with people who understand your schedule and understand what you're going through that's just there for you. Obviously it's important to make time for them and reach out to those people that you love," the young star said. "I fly a lot of people out to come see me as much as I can."
"Monte Carlo" hits theaters on July 1.Reporting by Chris Balish, co-host of KABC Television's entertainment show "On The Red Carpet" (check for local TV listings).
