Scarlett Johansson turns down Marine Corps Ball invitation (Video)

07/28/2011 by Kristina Lopez

Marine Sgt. Dustin L. Williams became the latest Marine to hope for a date with a big celebrity to the Marine Ball in November. He posted his invitation to Scarlett Johansson on July 21 on YouTube, which can be seen below. However, unlike Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis, Johansson will not be able to attend the event.

The actress said in a statement to Zap2it.com, "I feel incredibly honored to have been invited to the Marine Corps Ball by Sgt. Dustin L. Williams. Not only does Sgt. Williams deserve recognition for his bravery, selflessness and dedication to the United States and its people, but he also displays a cheeky talent for film making."

She adds, "Unfortunately due to prior commitments I will not be able to attend the Ball with you this year but I am sending you a case of Moet and Chandon with gratitude."

Sgt. Williams is not the first marine to be turned down by a celebrity. Betty White declined an invitation to the ball from Sgt. Ray Lewis to the Marine Corps Ball. Luckily for Sgt. Lewis, "Terminator" star Linda Hamilton offered to go in her place.

"Hi Ray. My name is Linda Hamilton. I don't know if you know who I am but rumor has it that you like your actresses vintage so I just thought I would take a shot here and try to find you," Hamilton, 54, says in a YouTube video, which was posted on Tuesday, July 19. It is not known if Sgt. Lewis accepted her offer.

White became the third celebrity to be asked out via online video.

Actress Mila Kunis and actor and singer Justin Timberlake have already accepted their invites to separate balls, issued by Marine Sgt. Scott Moore and female Marine, Kelsey De Santis, earlier this month.

Their YouTube proposals were posted just ahead of the release of their new film, "Friends With Benefits," which hits theaters on Friday, July 22.
