Scarlett Johansson opens up about Ryan Reynolds divorce, Sean Penn relationship
Scarlett Johansson has managed to keep her personal life relatively private, but finally opened up about her divorce from Ryan Reynolds and alleged romance with Sean Penn.
"We always kept our story private - how we met, our wedding, everything. It was about us," Johansson told Vogue magazine of Reynolds in their May issue.
"It was a beautiful thing," Scarlett said of the marriage. "The falling in love and getting married and making that commitment... I think it's nice to know that you're capable of loving somebody in that way. I think it's a rare opportunity."
Reynolds, 35, and Johansson, 27, finalized their divorce in early July. They announced in December 2010 that they would end their 2-year marriage.
"It was horrible," Johansson said of the divorce. "Of course it's horrible. It was devastating. It really throws you. You think that your life is going to be one way, and then, for various reasons or whatever, it doesn't work out. This was something I never thought I would be doing. And there's no way to navigate it. Nobody can give you the right answer. It's never anything you want to hear. It's a very lonely thing. It's like the loneliest thing you'll ever do, in some way."
"I don't feel on the other side of it completely, but it gets better," she continued. "It's still there. More than anything, it's just that not having your buddy around all the time is weird. There's no rule book. I think it's just time."
Of her highly publicized relationship with 51-year-old actor Sean Penn, Johansson finally admitted, "We spent time together, yeah... I never put a title on it, really, but we were seeing each other."
The private actress told Vogue that the attention was "a little bit of an adjustment" and though they are no longer seeing each other, Johansson said they are friends adding, "He's a remarkable person. He really is."
It was announced that Penn and Johansson had parted ways in June 2011. The couple, who had previously not acknowledged a relationship, had been linked since February of that year, a few months after Johansson had filed for a divorce.
Johansson is currently dating New York advertising creative director Nate Naylor, who she says is "remarkably good about" dealing with the paparazzi.
Reynolds is currently dating his "Green Lantern" co-star, Blake Lively, 24, who is best known for her role on "Gossip Girl."
The actress is seen by many as a sex symbol and was last year the target of a phone hacking scandal, in which naked photos of herself were posted online.
She can be seen next reprising her "Iron Man 2" role as Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, in Joss Whedon's superhero film "The Avengers," which is set for release on May 4.
