Scarlett Johansson on working with Matt Damon in 'We Bought A Zoo': 'He's a gem'
Scarlett Johnasson is very fond of her "We Bought A Zoo" co-star Matt Damon.
The actress stars as Kelly Foster in the film, a zookeeper who helps Benjamin Mee (Damon's character) re-open and run his recently purchased zoo. The movie is based on the true story of Mee and his family, who run the Dartmoor Zoological Park in England.
"It's been incredible," Johansson said about working with Damon in an interview provided by the film's studio, 20th Century Fox. "I've been a huge fan of his since I was a kid, since he was a kid, and I just think he's an incredibly generous actor."
Johansson goes on to say Damon is "unbelievably professional and unbelievably kind and so much fun to work with just because he's a lot of laughs when it's that time and when it's down to the work he's just present and focused and he's just a gem."
The film is directed by Cameron Crowe, known for writing and directing films like "Jerry Maguire" "Almost Famous." Before working in the film industry, Crowe worked as a music journalist for Rolling Stone and his love of music is reflected in many of his films.
"Cameron plays a lot of music when we're filming," Johansson revealed. "He plays a lot of music when we're setting up. I listen to a lot of music, I'm an avid lover of music and I shared a lot of music with Cameron and he shared with me."
"I think that he has a lot of understanding of the beats and of the dialogue and the understanding of the beats of our character's actions," she added. "He thinks of that in a lot of ways as a sort of musicality.
As for her character, Johansson said, "She's a very practical person and I think is good natured and she's a person who picks animals over people and I think that's very much who she is and where her head is at."
"She's a very much a person who gets it done and gets it done well and leaves no loose ends," she added.
"We Bought A Zoo" hit theaters on December 23. Check out the trailer below.
