'Scandal' spoilers: Scott Foley, Guillermo Diaz talk season 3
"Scandal" is set to make its major season 3 return on ABC on Thursday, Oct. 3 -- something its stars Scott Foley and Guillermo Diaz are ready for.
Diaz and Foley, who was promoted to a series regular in season 3 after a successful guest-starring role as Jake Ballard in season 2, rejoin Kerry Washington's character, Olivia Pope. In the season 2 cliffhanger, Olivia was seen face-to-face with her father after news broke she was having an affair with President Fitzgerald Grant, played by Tony Goldwyn.
The two actors talked to OTRC.com about their roles in season 3, what the series regular promotion means to Foley and hint at possible spoilers for returning characters this season.
1. If you're going to sign on for another season of this show, I'm hoping you had a conversation promising you would not be in a hole for 22 weeks.
Scott Foley: "Well, I love this show and the people on it and the people who run it so much that I didn't have to have that conversation because, I would happily spend 22 weeks in that hole to be on this show."
"I mean, that's how much I love it, and I can't imagine that that's going to be the case, just from a story telling point, but I would empty the trash. I've been a fan of the show since I read the pilot script before the show was even on the air and to be a part of it and to be able to join these guys, they really have such a good time together and I think Shonda [Rhimes] writes such amazing stuff, I would. I'd sit in that whole all damn year."
2. Guillermo, you probably had one of the top five moments in television last season -- can you tell viewers if there's any happiness for you in the upcoming season?
Guillermo Diaz: "Honestly, I don't know yet. There might be, I'm hoping for it. I hope they bring back Huck's wife and his child and that would be great to see them reconnect again. I can tell you Huck is struggling with what he's created in Quinn [played by Katie Lowes]."
"He's scared and nervous that she's liking the dark side way too much and he doesn't know what's going to happen. We do some flashback episodes, you're going to see Huck back in the train station again with Olivia and find out more information about their relationship. There are some characters that are going to return to the show, that's some really exciting stuff."
3. Scott, you made an impact that they needed you back as a series regular. What does that feel like?
Scott Foley: "There's nothing better, that's why I do what I do. Someone once said, 'nobody craves the love of people they don't know more than an actor,' and to have someone as accomplished as Shonda Rhimes is and successful say, 'you know, we need you to be a part of this show,' it really [laughs], it makes my life worth living."
