The 31-year-old actress, who has battled with weight issues throughout her career and who is known for shows such as Less Than Perfect and Eastwick, completed the Sunday run in central California, which began in San Luis Obispo and ended in Pismo Beach, in two hours and 27 minutes.

"Um, so I packed quickly and totally forgot underwear, guess I'll be running my first half marathon commando," Rue wrote on her Twitter page and said after the run: "So happy. Feeling pretty good, taking an ice bath- btw running commando is the only way to go ;)"

People magazine reported that Rue's fiance Kevin Price filmed Rue along the route and quoted the actress as saying: "Now I understand what people have been saying about having a runner's high. I'm in the best shape of my life. Less than seven, eight months ago I couldnt even run a mile. This has been really empowering. I wore my medal to lunch."

Sara Rue, who is also a spokesperson for the Jenny Craig weight loss program, has said she plans to remain a size 6 after dropping 50 pounds since December.

"Stress, if youre anything like me, is a big eating trigger ... a self-sabotaging, give me-the-jar-of-peanut-butter-and-box-of-crackers, kind of behavioral takeover," Rue wrote on her Jenny Craig blog recently. "It sucks.  ARGH ... Why do I still feel this way sometimes?  Well, because I am still me, a redhead battling a lifetime of eating issues."

"The good news is that I am in 'maintaining my weight' mode right now, not losing any weight," she said. "This means that if I do give into temptation, I can just add in a little more activity."

Other actors who showcased a slimmer figure in recent months include John Goodman, who lost 100 pounds, and Drew Carey, who said in July that he had dropped 80 pounds since January.
