Sara Gilbert may discuss being a lesbian mom on new show 'The Talk'; Leah Remini will not mention Scientology
Sara Gilbert, executive producer of the new CBS daytime show The Talk, says she may discuss being a lesbian partner and mom on the air but Leah Remini, one of the fellow co-hosts, does not plan on speaking about Scientology, her religion.
"I love to make people laugh, entertain them," the Associated Press on Wednesday quoted Remini as telling the Television Critics Association. "That other thing is something that is not even part of my discussion."
Gilbert is best known as Darlene Conner from the comedy series Roseanne. The Talk will replace As the World Turns when the soap opera ends its 54-year run in September and its panel format is similar to Barbara Walters' ABC show The View. The Talk will address "topical events and contemporary issues through the eyes of mothers," CBS has said.
The co-hosts are all parents, including 35-year-old Gilbert, who has two children with her partner, Allison Adler.
"I don't think of things as 'out' or 'in,'" she said. "I just think I am who I am. I'll share it when it seems right.
The other co-hosts on The Talk are CBS anchor Julie Chen, Sharon Osbourne and actresses Holly Robinson Peete and Marissa Jaret Winokur.
"I am so thrilled to be able to sit down with these amazing women and talk about being moms and sharing mom stories from all these different points of view," Robinson Peete had told OnTheRedCarpet.com.
Gilbert received two Emmy nominations for her acerbic role on Roseanne, which aired between 1988 and 1997 and starred comedienne Roseanne and John Goodman. Gilbert played Leslie Winkle on several episodes of the CBS sitcom The Big Bang Theory and also appeared on 24, ER and Grey's Anatomy.
Robinson Peete, 45, recently came in second on Celebrity Apprentice, which was won by rocker Bret Michaels, and also had roles in the shows 21 Jump Street with Johnny Depp and Hangin' With Mr. Cooper. Sharon Osbourne, 57, won an Emmy for her reality series The Osbournes, which starred her husband Ozzy and children Kelly and Jack. She now serves as a judge on America's Got Talent.
Remini, 40, starred in the comedy series The King of Queens alongside Kevin James between 1998 and 2007. Winokur, 37, won a Tony for playing Tracy Turnblad in the Broadway musical Hairspray. Chen says she will leave her co-anchor position on the The Early Show on CBS but remain a contributor and stay on as host of its reality series Big Brother.
