Sam Champion of 'Good Morning America' engaged to Rubem Robierb
Sam Champion, the weather anchor for "Good Morning America,' got engaged to his boyfriend Rubem Robierb, ABC News announced on October 5.
Champion and Robierb met through mutual friends in Miami, where the Brazilian-born fine arts photographer lives. The pair plans to wed later this year.
"We are thrilled and so excited and thank everyone for their good wishes," Champion said in a statement.
The 51-year-old anchor Tweeted on October 5, "I've never been happier to share a bit of personal news!!"
Champion is expected to talk about the engagement on Monday's episode of "Good Morning America."
Champion spoke of his impending nuptials to The New York Times, announcing, "We're getting married New Year's Eve in Miami."
Robierb corrected his fiance, telling the newspaper, "We'll do it here [in New York] officially, and then have a party in Miami."
Champion got his start with ABC in 1988 as the weatherman for WABC-TV's Eyewitness News in New York City. He joined "Good Morning America" and ABC News in September 2006.
