Salma Hayek says it felt "good to be bad" as the villain Elena, the head of a Mexican drug cartel, in Oliver Stone's new film "Savages."

In the movie, the 45-year-old actress' character masterminds the kidnapping of an American woman named O, played by Blake Lively, who has two boyfriends who happen to be pot growers, portrayed by Taylor Kitsch and Aaron Johnson. Elena is helped by two male accomplices, played by Benicio Del Toro and Demian Bichir.

If Oliver Stone is telling you what to do, yeah, it feels good to be bad," Hayek told OnTheRedCarpet.com and other outlets at the recent Los Angeles premiere of "Savages." "If you get to be bad with someone like him [Del Toro], it's good to be bad."

The film is rated R for violence and graphic sexual scenes, including a threesome between O and her men. Hayek said in recent TV interviews that she opted to keep her 4-year-old daughter Valentina away from the set of "Savages."

"I think the film is violent, which I'm not so happy about - it's a lot for me because of so much violence but at the same time, it's strange because it's also beautiful," Hayek told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "It's not just action - it's really sexy and it's feminine in a way, you know, like the way [Stone] shoots nature and all that and it's also a film where the women have a lot of power. That's cool, too."

Lively, who is also known for her role as Serena on the CW show "Gossip Girl," told OnTheRedCarpet.com that she and Hayek were "good buddies" when the cameras were not rolling.

"So when she would turn into her character, it was always fun to see how talented she is," Lively said. "And she's such a tiny lady, so to see her just like, take control and take the power - that was remarkable."

"Savages" hits theaters on Friday, July 6.
