Ryan Reynolds, star of 'Green Lantern', is 'Sexiest Man Alive' of 2010
Ryan Reynolds has been named the "Sexiest Man Alive" of 2010 by People magazine just as the trailer for his new film, "Green Lantern" hit the Internet.
Reynolds, a 34-year-old Canadian actor, ousts Johnny Depp, who dominated the top spot last year. Reynolds has been married to actress Scarlett Johansson, who was recently named "Babe of the Year" by GQ magazine, since 2008.
"This gives my family entre into teasing me for the rest of my life," People quoted Reynolds as saying. "Now it's going to be, 'Sexiest man, take out the garbage.' That does sound better. The most difficult part is going to be organically working this title into a conversation with random strangers."
The second person on People's list is "Mad Men" actor Jon Hamm, while "Twilight"'s Kellan Lutz is No. 3, rapper Drake is No. 4 and Matthew Morrison, who plays Mr. Schue on "Glee", is No. 5.
Reynolds, who was No. 2 on the list in 2009 and No. 3 in 2008, can be seen next as the title character in "Green Lantern," based on the DC comic book superhero who uses a power ring that concerts his ideas and willpower into energy as he tries to fight evil.
The film is set for release on June 17, 2011 and also stars "Gossip Girl" actress Blake Lively as Carol Ferris, the love interest of the Green Lantern's alter-ego, Hal Jordan. (Check out the trailer for "Green Lantern").
Reynolds was last seen in "Buried", which was released in October and saw the actor playing a U.S. contractor in Iraq who is buried alive after an attack.
The actor said he spent almost a full day inside a coffin while shooting the movie, which made him feel as though he would lose his mind. He also obtained a small bald patch while shooting the film.
Reynolds began his career in his native Canada, starring in locally-produced television shows such as the teen soap opera "Hillside", also called "Fifteen", in 1990 and the sci-fi teen series "The Odyssey".
He rose to fame in the United States with a main part in the sitcom "Two Guys and a Girl" from 1998 to 2001 and later nabbed the title role in the raunchy comedy movie "Van Wilder", which starred Tara Reid. In 2009, Reynolds starred in "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" alongside Hugh Jackman and in "Adventureland", which stars "Twilight"'s Kristen Stewart and "The Social Network"'s Jesse Eisenberg.
It was also reported in late August that Reynolds and "The Hangover"'s Bradley Cooper are set to play San Francisco cop buddies in a comedy movie with an "updated Lethal Weapon flavor that plays into edgier R-rated territory."
