Ryan Phillippe loved playing bad guy in 'The Lincoln Lawyer'
Ryan Phillippe says he enjoyed playing the bad guy in the new film "The Lincoln Lawyer."
"It's so much fun. I don't know what that says about me, but I really enjoy it," Phillippe told OnTheRedCarpet.com at the recent premiere of the movie. "I want to do it more. It's very liberating, when you're the protagonist or the hero of a film, there are rules that come along with that in terms of keeping the audience on your side, or whatever it is. And to be the bad guy, you can just kind of let it go."
"The Lincoln Lawyer" also stars Matthew McConaughey, Marisa Tomei, and William H. Macy and tells the story of lawyer Mick Haller (McConaughey), who conducts his business from the back of his Lincoln town car while working on a case for a high-profile client (Phillippe).
Phillippe had nothing but kind words for his co-star McConaughey and suggested that this might be the actor's meatiest role to date.
"I feel like this is perhaps his most intense work ever," Phillippe said. "He really goes for it, warts and all, he's just kind of out there. I love that even though he's the hero of the film, he's flawed. He's not the white knight kind of the perfect guy coming to save the day. I think he did a helluva job."
Phillippe played another villainous character in one of his earlier films, "Cruel Intentions," alongside his now ex-wife, Reese Witherspoon, who he met on-set. Phillippe and Witherspoon, 34, were married between 1999 and 2008. The two are parents to daughter Ava, 11 and son Deacon, 7.
Witherspoon confirmed in late December that she is engaged to Jim Toth, a Hollywood agent, who she has dated for about a year. Phillipe later said he was happy for the two.
Phillippe has for the past few months been linked to "Red Riding Hood" actress Amanda Seyfried.
"The Lincoln Lawyer" is set to be released on March 18, 2011. Watch the trailer below.
