Russell Crowe's kayaking mishap: Coast Guard gives actor a 'lift' (Photo)

Russell Crowe had quite the water adventure around the start of Labor Day weekend.

The 48-year-old actor and a friend went kayaking off the coast of the Long Island area of New York on Saturday and lost track of time and became disoriented as it became darker. They headed to the nearest shore on Huntington Bay, located about 10 miles away from where they set off, and called the U.S. Coast Guard for help.

Fortunately, a vessel was on a routine patrol. Crowe and the friend then paddled out to the Coast Guard boat from where they were stranded and hitched a ride with them, U.S. Coast Guard Petty Officer Robert Swieciki told the Associated Press, adding: "He just needed a little bit of help, he just got a little lost. It wasn't really a rescue, really, more of just giving someone a lift."

"Not lost,we knew where exactly where we were, paddling around from csh into wind, we ran out of day. Grand adventure eh @chris_feather ? sic)" Crowe added on Twitter.

No one involved in the incident suffered any injuries. The U.S. Coast Guard released a photo of the actor, sporting a scruffy beard, standing in between Swieciki and another Coast Guard petty officer.

"Kayak;Cold Spring/Huntington Harbour, thanks to Seth and the boys from the US Coast Guard for guiding the way...4 hrs 30 mins, 7m(11.2km) (sic)" Crowe added.

Crowe is currently filming the movie "Noah." Production began in July and parts of the movie are being filmed in New York City. The actor plays the title character, the Biblical hero who builds an ark. The Darren Aronofsky-directed movie also stars "Harry Potter" actress Emma Watson, Jennifer Connelly and Anthony Hopkins and hits theaters in 2014.
