Rupert Grint on playing Ron Weasley: 'He'll always be a little bit a part of me'
After ten years, Rupert Grint is known to most movie audiences as the "Harry Potter" character Ron Weasley.
With the final film "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2" breaking box office records, the actor reflected in a recent interview provided by Warner Bros. Pictures on what it was like to grow up playing a character through the eight films.
"I think in some ways we have become this kind of Ronpert thing. I think playing that same character for ten years ... and before we started I always had that kind of connection to Ron," Grint said. "Even though this is over I think he'll always be a little bit a part of me."
The final movie in the franchise, which was released on July 15, wraps up the epic battle between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione Granger return to Hogwarts to find and destroy Voldemort's final horcruxes, which contain fragments of his soul. By doing so, they hope to render him mortal, so that they can finally kill him. But when Voldemort finds out about their mission, the biggest battle ever begins.
"Ron in the first part ['Deathly Hallows - Part 1] I think he was this very unreliable kind of paranoid, doubtful, mess of a person," Grint said of his character. He added that in the second film "Ron really kind of gets it together and even comes up with a few kind of quite good ideas."
"He falls in love as well, which is kind of something that's kind of been building for a long time," Grint said."This is a very different film to part one really. Part one was quite intense, kind of dramatic build up to this I guess," Grint said. "It's almost like a war film with the students, we all become soldiers in a way. It's quite shocking to see the castle on fire and just in these piles of rubble."
Grint's co-star, Daniel Radcliffe made a similar statement about "Deathly Hallows - Part 2" film saying, "Part 1 is comparatively kind of like a slow burning drama," the actor said in an interview provided by Warner Bros. Pictures. "(Part 2) is an all-out action film with moments of intense emotional drama."
Radcliffe added that "Deathly Hallows - Part 2 is "a heist movie that turns into a war film and it's pretty fantastic."
As for the end of a ten-year journey acting in the blockbuster franchise, Grint said, "It's been kind of a mix of emotions really. On the one hand yeah, this has been such a huge part of my life, basically my childhood really."
He added, "There is sadness to that. It's kind of quite liberating to have finished and completed this journey. It's great I'm kind of looking forward to moving on and doing different things now."
"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" was released in the United States on July 15, 2011. Watch the trailer below.
