Rufus Wainwright weds partner Jorn Weisbrodt
Singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright recently married his longtime partner Jorn Weisbrodt.
Wainwright, 39, and Weisbrodt were wed in the rustic beach community of Montauk in the Long Island area of New York on Thursday, August 23, according to People magazine.
In a photo published by the outlet, the couple appear to be in more formal attire, with Wainwright wearing a jeweled ivory suit and looking adoringly at Weisbrodt, who sported a black suit.
Klaus Biesenbach, Chief Curator at Large of The Museum of Modern Art in New York City and a friend of Wainwright, posted photos on his Twitter from the ceremony and the wedding rehearsal.
In one picture, Wainwright and Weisbrodt can be seen wearing unique outfits with their arms around one another. Wainwright is wearing a red, white, black and blue striped suit with gold embellishments and sandals. Weisbrodt is in the photo wearing gold jeans with a taupe colored button up (See photo).
"I am first timer in being a best man at a wedding...at least i already delivered the speech ok! (sic)" Biesenbach Tweeted on Thursday.
The pair were married by their longtime friend, artist Justin Vivian Bond, who Tweeted her congratulations to the couple, posting: "Blessings and congratulations to Rufus and Jorn. Gorgeous wedding and reception. I was so honored to officiate. #marriageequalitynow"
In another photo posted by Biesenbach, Bond is pictured in black dress pants with a sheer white blouse, finishing off the classy ensemble with strappy black sandals and a chunky necklace (See photo).
The ceremony was attended by many of the couple's close friends and numerous celebrities, including Yoko Ono and Sean Lennon, Paul Simon, Carrie Fisher, Mark Ronson, Alan Cumming and Julianne Moore, People said.
Wainwright and Weisbrodt became engaged in 2010 and share an 18-month-old daughter, Viva Katherine Wainwright Cohen. The men are in a parenting partnership with singer Leonard Cohen's daughter Lorca Cohen.
The Salome Chamber Orchestra and David Aron Carpenter played during the ceremony, and Rufus's sister, singer-songwriter Martha Wainwright, also performed.
Wainwright has released seven studio albums throughout his career. His newest one, "Out of the Game," hit stores in April. He has also contributed music to soundtracks of films such as "Zoolander," "Brokeback Mountain" and "Moulin Rouge!" Weisbrodt is the artistic director of Luminato, a Toronto Festival of Arts and Creativity.
