Former "American Idol" contestant Kelly Pickler competed and won on "Dancing With The Stars" in May and soon another "American Idol" alum will appear on another reality competition series.

Ruben Studdard, who won the second season of "American Idol" in 2003, will compete on the weight loss show "The Biggest Loser," he confirmed to People magazine.

The 35-year-old singer was candid with the magazine about his previous efforts to lose weight, which included working with celebrity trainer Gunnar Peterson, who had previously worked with celebrities like Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Lopez and Matthew McConaughey.

However, Studdard explained that while he lost weight with Peterson, the trainer's 1,200 calorie diet plan made it difficult for Studdard to keep up.

"I was losing weight, but I was exhausted. It was making me sick," he told the magazine. "I'm a big man. There was no way to do those workouts on that amount of food, so everything was contradicting itself."

Studdard left Peterson's weight-loss program after losing 12 pounds. He then became a vegetarian in 2006, which resulted in him losing 70 of his 455 pound frame. The singer married Surata Zuri McCants in 2008, but the couple later divorced in 2012. Studdard said that was when he began gaining weight again.

"I've never had an issue with my weight," Studdard told the magazine. "[But] my family has a history of high blood pressure, diabetes, heart-related issues things I didn't have to deal with yet because I'm young. But I don't want to be worried at 40, and if I don't fix things now, I will be."

The 15th season of "The Biggest Loser" will air on NBC on Tuesdays in the fall.

Studdard isn't the only contestant from Season 2 of "American Idol" to compete in another reality series. Clay Aiken, who lost the "American Idol" title to Studdard and came in second place, competed in the fifth season of "The Celebrity Apprentice" in 2012, where he also came in second place. This time, Aiken lost out to former late night talk show host Arsenio Hall.
