Royal wedding hat worn by Princess Beatrice sells for more than $130K
Princess Beatrice's hat that she wore to the royal wedding last month has sold on eBay for $131,648.
The winner, who was among 40 bidders, was not identified after the auction ended on Sunday, according to the Associated Press.
Proceeds from the auction, which opened on May 12, will go to the charities UNICEF and Children in Crisis.
"I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted," Beatrice, 22, had said in a statement posted on the listing page. "It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have."
The silk Philip Treacy hat has drawn a lot of attention since Beatrice wore it to the wedding of Prince William and Catherine on April 29. She attended the wedding with her sister Eugenie, 21, and her father, Prince Andrew. The princesses' mother, Sarah Ferguson, was not invited.
In the United Kingdom, fancy hats with giant decorations are often seen at high-profile events, church services and especially at weddings, especially those thrown by the royal family (see photos of the best hats at the royal wedding).
