Rose McGowan might play the villain in "Conan the Barbarian," but she was still glad that her nemesis wasn't a nerd with a superpower, like so many comic book heroes.

"[Conan]'s just a man and his sword," McGowan told OnTheRedCarpet.com co-host Chris Balish at the film's Hollywood premiere. "He's got his faults. And it's nice because what we're used to seeing are these kinda nerds, these kind of wimpy, sensitive guys and then they get a superpower and struggle with it. No, this is the guy who's just going to cut off your head if you cross him."

In "Conan the Barbarian," a remake of a 1982 Arnold Schwarzenegger fantasy film, McGowan plays the villain Marique, a witch and the daughter of an evil warlord. Jason Momoa portrays the title character, who seeks revenge for the destruction of his tribe. He previously starred on the show "Stargate: Atlantis" and plays Khal Drogo on the HBO fantasy series "Game of Thrones."

McGowan is famous for some of her risqué red carpet looks, but the actress says she feels like a little girl playing dress-up.

"It's work, but it's fun work," McGowan said of the premiere. "When you're little and you're putting on a sheet and tying it up and going down the hallway and putting on a towel to make a turban and your mom's jewelry and kind of swanning around -- this is kind of the real version of that. It's funny doing something that you did when you were 10 and it somehow came true."

McGowan has some experience portraying the bad guy. In 1998, she played the lead clique members in the teen comedy "Jawbreaker," which earned her an MTV Movie Award nod for Best Villain.

McGowan's breakout role was that of young witch Paige Matthews in the WB drama series "Charmed." She joined the show in 2001, replacing cast member Shannen Doherty. "Charmed" ended its run in 2006.

McGowan dated and was engaged to singer Marilyn Manson, who appeared in "Jawbreaker," for more than two years before they split in 2001. She later dated Ahmet Zappa, son of the late singer Frank Zappa, and was engaged to Robert Rodriguez, who directed her in the 2007 action-horror flicks "Planet Terror" and "Grindhouse." They are said to have ended their relationship in 2009.

"Conan the Barbarian" is set for release on August 19. Check out a trailer below.
