Robert Pattinson 'GMA' interview - actor talks cereal instead of Kristen Stewart breakup

Robert Pattinson is remaining silent about his highly publicized breakup with his "Twilight" co-star Kristen Stewart. The actor dodged questions about how he's doing during an appearance on ABC's "Good Morning America" on Wednesday, August 15.

GMA's George Stephanopoulos greeted Pattinson with a box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch, saying, "Jon Stewart gave you some ice cream...we did our research, thought it was more appropriate for breakfast, your favorite cereal." On Monday, "The Daily Show" host greeted Pattinson and offered him some Ben & Jerry's ice cream pretending to cheer him up and joked that they were "just two gals" talking about a breakup.

Pattinson didn't eat any cereal on set, but said he would "take the whole box." Stephanopoulos quickly addressed what he called the "elephant in the room" and asked Pattinson what he wants his fans to know about how he's doing in his personal life.

Pattinson, who has admitted that he doesn't have a publicist to control topics during press interviews, remained good-natured and joked about how his fans get excited about "kind of whatever."

"I'd like my fans to know that Cinnamon Toast Crunch only has 30 calories a bowl in it, for instance. Pretty much everything that comes out of my mouth is irrelevant," Pattinson said with a laugh. "You get into it to do movies. I've never been interested in trying to sell my personal life, and that's really the only reason people bring it up."

Stewart, 22, shocked fans of "Twilight," one of the most popular film franchises of all time, when she said via a press statement on July 25 that she had had a "momentary indiscretion," around the same time that paparazzi photos of her and Rupert Sanders, who directed her in the movie "Snow White and the Huntsman," kissing and embracing were published in Us Weekly magazine and posted online.

Pattinson, 26, successfully steered his conversation with Stephanopoulos back to movies. The actor is in New York City promoting his new film, "Cosmopolis," an R-rated sexual film that sees him playing a billionaire who takes an unusual limo ride through Manhattan. He attended the premiere solo on Monday night.

Pattinson said he was drawn to the role because he can relate to his character, Eric Packer.

"I've always found this connection with the idea of finding it difficult to live in the present. It's funny, it exacerbates it being an actor because you actually have to focus on it, trying to exist in a contemporary way," Pattinson said. "I always feel like I'm kind of living in the future...that's a lot of what Eric Packer's problem is. He feels like he's living in the future."

The film hits theaters Friday, August 17, in New York and Los Angeles and Friday, August 24, nationwide.
