Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones to exit 'Parks and Recreation'
The cast of "Parks and Recreation" is about to get a little smaller.
Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones, who play Chris Traeger and Ann Perkins on the series, will leave the show after the 13th episode of the upcoming sixth season, which premieres on Sept. 26 with an hour-long episode.
The news, which was first reported by Buzzfeed on July 31, was later confirmed by series co-creator and executive producer Mike Schur in a statement to the website.
"We've been working on their storyline (on and off) for four seasons now, and heading into this year, with the two of them contemplating parenthood, it felt like a natural time to move them into the next phase," Schur's statement said.
"They are wonderful, funny, committed actors, they've been a huge part of the 'Parks and Rec' family, and we think we have a great Pawnee send-off in the works for them," the statement ended.
Chris and Ann dated in earlier seasons and last season, the two decided to try to have a baby together. "Parks and Recreation" also stars Amy Poehler, Nick Offerman, Aubrey Plaza and Aziz Ansari as employees working in local government in the fictional town of Pawnee, Indiana.
Jones has been on the series since its first episode. Lowe joined the show in season 2 with Adam Scott.
Lowe talked about the show in a tweet on July 31. He mentioned Schur, who goes by @KenTremendous on the social networking site, and wrote, "Thanks @KenTremendous It has literally been a world class pleasure. I'm sure Chris will take great care of... Ann Perkins!!"
