Rihanna to perform at AMAs 2013, get special award (Poll)
Rihanna has been added to the list of artists set to perform at the 2013 American Music Awards (AMAs) and will also receive a special honor.
The 25-year-old Grammy-winning R&B and pop star will be handed the AMA Icon Award, the very first given at the annual ceremony. The 2013 AMAs show airs on ABC on Nov. 24 at 8 p.m. ET.
"The first-ever Icon Award was created to honor an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level," producer Larry Klein said in a statement to OTRC.com on Friday. "Rihanna's iconic and innovative sound has enabled her to become one of the most influential and best-selling artists of all time."
The singer has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide. Her latest, "Unapologetic," was released in 2012. In addition to her honorary award, she is also nominated in four regular AMA categories, including Artist of the Year, whose other nominees include Taylor Swift and Justin Timberlake.
