Rihanna teams with Style Network to re-create fashion series 'Styled to Rock'
Rihanna is set to star in her own fashion-based reality show.
The performer and fashion icon, 24, is executive-producing Style Network's first-ever competition series, "Styled to Rock," which is set to premiere in 2013. This marks the first starring role in a television series for the Barbadian singer and actress.
The hour-long 10-episode series, which has been compared to the Lifetime series "Project Runway," is set to showcase the search for the next fashion design superstar. The show will give 12 up-and-coming designers, all hand-picked by Rihanna, the opportunity to create fashion pieces for celebrities.
"Fashion has always played an integral part in my life and career," Rihanna said on the Style Network's website. "I am so excited to partner with Style Network and share my creative insight with these 12 designers and give them this opportunity to showcase their work."
A British version of "Styled To Rock" with Rihanna aired in August 2012 on the Sky Living channel in the United Kingdom. The series has since been taken over by the Style Network with Rihanna at the helm, and the format for the new season is set to be tailored to fit an American audience.
"Rihanna is a trailblazer, a trendsetter and the epitome of style. She has a powerful and unique point-of-view that transcends every aspect of pop culture, including fashion, and is a leading creative force," said Salaam Coleman Smith, President of Style Media. "On the heels of our successful network rebrand, 'Styled to Rock' and Style's new partnership with Rihanna will reinvent the fashion competition genre, fueling our viewers insatiable appetite for all things style."
The fashion designer search will kick off with a nationwide casting call on StyleNetwork.com which begins on December 5.
"My new TV show is coming to @StyleNetwork! Check it out at http://StyleNetwork.com #StyledToRock," she Tweeted on December 5.
In 2011, Rihanna was a guest judge on the popular singing series "The X Factor" during its debut season. That same year, the pop star also appeared on an episode of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition."
On December 1, the fashion-loving performer turned heads in a lacy Nini Nguyen gown which she paired with a chunky, gold Christian Lacroix choker for the launch of her third fragrance, Nude by Rihanna (Photos).
The "Rude Boy" singer also dazzled at the 2012 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, joining supermodels such as Miranda Kerr, Candice Swanepoel, Adriana Lima, Doutzen Kroes, Alessandra Ambrosio and Lily Aldridge, who showed off the latest sexy pieces from the popular lingerie brand as well a slew of colorful costumes (Photos).
Teen pop star Justin Bieber and R&B singer Bruno Mars also sang on stage at the annual event, which took place on Wednesday, November 7 and aired on Tuesday, December 4.
