Ricki Lake and Christian Evans have eloped, less than a year after they announced their engagement.
This is the second marriage for Lake, known best for her long-running talk show that focused mainly on relationships. The 43-year-old and Evans, a 40-year-old jewelry designer, met through a friend of hers and have been dating since the summer of 2010. In August 2011, Lake announced they were engaged.
The two married in a "secret ceremony in southern California" on Sunday, April 8, People magazine reported on Tuesday, April 10. Lake Tweeted that day: "It's official, and I am so happy!"
She also posted a photo of her in her wedding gown, which features a tiered skirt.
"Yup. This is me...." she said. "Sadie Sadie married lady. :) :) Love is in the air."
Lake, who has battled weight problems for years, competed on "Dancing With The Stars" last year with partner Derek Hough and slimmed down significantly. She put off shopping for her wedding gown until the finale in November 2011. A month later, she said she "may have found a dress."
"You look great Ricki," Hough Tweeted about her wedding gown photo.
News about her wedding comes a week before Lake's new memoir, hits stores on April 17. In the book, "Never Say Never: Finding a Life That Fits," she discusses her weight loss struggle, financial problems, childhood and love life, including her divorce.
Lake and her first husband, Rob Sussman, ended their some 10-year marriage in 2005. They have two sons - Milo, 15, and Owen, 10.
Lake is best known for her syndicated talk show "Ricki Lake," which ran between 1998 and 2004. She is set to appear in a new daytime talk series, "The Ricki Lake Show," which debuts on September 10.
She is also an actress who has appeared in films like "Hairspray" in 1988 and "Cry-Baby," a 1990 musical movie starring Johnny Depp. Lake also starred in the 1994 dark comedy "Serial Mom." In 2009, she hosted the VH1 reality show "Charm School" in 2009.
