Ricki Lake on 'DWTS': I hope to give whoever wins a run for their money

11/14/2011 by Olivia Allin

The ever-humble Ricki Lake says she's not expecting to win this season of "Dancing With The Stars," but hopes to give whoever does a fight to the finish.

"I don't expect to win," Lake told OnTheRedCarpet.com after Monday's episode. "I really, I hope to be back next week and I hope to give whoever wins a run for their money, but no, I don't expect anything."

The 42-year-old actress and television host and three-time champion Hough, 26, received a score of 30 out of 30 from the judges for their Paso Doble, 29 out of 30 for their Argentine Tango and an extra 8 points for their Cha Cha Relay in week 9 of ABC's hit celebrity ballroom dancing series (read recap).

The pair earned the highest combined score of the evening with 67 points. Rob Kardashian and his partner Cheryl Burke were close behind with a combined 65 points.

Ricki Lake was all smiles on Monday's show and she and Derek Hough performed their rousing Paso Doble to "Jump In The Line (Shake, Senora)," cheering up the dance floor in bright yellow. Len Goodman validated the performance saying, "Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. You just took a giant step into the finals."

Lake seemed to have benefitted from her partner's low stress approach this week.

"I think because it was like such an impossible week it felt like, it was like three dances this is impossible, we're tired, we're exhausted, we thought you know what let's just take the pressure of ourselves," Hough told OnTheRedCarpet.com. "We're not worried about making the final, we're not worried about winning, we're not worried about anything else other than just getting through this week, and it was, I felt that sort of pressure taken off."

Lake is still her own biggest critic though and had to be convinced by her scores and the judges that she has a chance of winning the competition. Head judge Len Goodman told the actress after her Argentine Tango, "Ricki, I don't think you know how good that was, because it was really, really good."

"[Hough]'s a perfectionist and I'm a perfectionist so you know I always want to do my best," Lake continued. "And yes, maybe I am a little bit too hard on myself."

Lake couldn't be convinced that she has a shot at the Mirror Ball trophy though, and unlike her fellow contestants, hasn't thought about where she would put it if she won.

"I haven't thought it through about where it goes, no," Lake said. "I will make room. If that happens I'll make room, but I'm just having a great time."

During Monday night's episode, the stars shared their life stories. During Lake's segment, she talked about her childhood and wanting to perform. But when Lake said that when she was molested as a child, she turned to food for comfort.

Lake's acting skills earned her breakout role in the 1988 John Waters movie "Hairspray" and an early onslaught of fame. Lake lamented that she kept gaining weight until she weighed 260 pounds, but she eventually put her health first and lost 100 pounds. Around that time, she got a call to do "The Ricki Lake Show." But after the show ended, Lake had another rough patch with her divorce.

Lake is currently engaged to Christian Evans. The two have been together since mid-2010.

The four remaining pairs return on Tuesday, November 15 for an elimination episode, during which the ninth couple is expected to be sent packing and the remaining couples will head into the finale.
