Reese Witherspoon: I was a totally different person before meeting Jim Toth
Reese Witherspoon has done her best to keep her relationship with CAA agent Jim Toth private, but has now opened up about how she met her husband and why he is unlike "anybody" else.
Witherspoon told People magazine that she was being hit on by a "really drunk guy" when Toth intervened.
"Jim came over and said, 'Please excuse my friend, he's just broken up with someone,'" the 35-year-old actress recalled. "I remember thinking... Jim was a really good friend, pulling [his drunk pal] out of that situation. That's just kind of who he is, a really good person."
The couple became engaged in December after dating for about a year. This marks the second marriage for the actress, who was married to Phillippe, 36, between 1999 and 2008. She has two children from her first marriage, daughter Ava, 12 and son Deacon, 8.
Witherspoon told People that she was a "totally different person" before she met Toth, following the devastation of her divorce.
"I used to be afraid to travel and afraid to leave my house, afraid to leave my kids -- that something horrible was going to happen," Witherspoon said. "[Jim] really surprised me," she says. "You don't know who you're going to end up with. When I was 20, if you'd asked me... I wouldn't have said Jim."
"Jim's like, 'I'm gonna show you every day what a good partner is, what a good person is, I'm going to take care of you. I'm going to do it so much that you're gonna get used to it,'" Witherspoon said of her new husband. "I was like, 'What are you talking about? I've never had anybody like that in my life.'"
Witherspoon and Toth were first linked together in January 2010, shortly after she and actor Jake Gyllenhaal confirmed they had broken up after dating for about three years. Witherspoon and Toth fended off engagement rumors in October.
Witherspoon is known for movies such as "Legally Blonde" and won an Oscar for the 2005 film "Walk the Line." She recently appeared in "Water for Elephants" with "Twilight" actor Robert Pattinson and filmed "This Means War" with Chris Pine and E! talk show host Chelsea Handler.
