Randy Travis now faces a driving while intoxicated charge in a case stemming from his naked arrest in August.

Travis was formally charged on Wednesday, January 9, in Grayson County, Texas, according to The Associated Press. Grayson County District Attorney Joe Brown told the wire service that Travis was charged with driving while intoxicated with a blood alcohol level greater than 0.15. The legal limit for driving is 0.08. The Class A misdemeanor is punishable by up to two years in jail and a $4,000 fine.

The country music singer was arrested on August 7 after the Grayson County Sheriff's Office received a 911 call at 11:18 p.m. about a man lying in the road just outside of Tioga, Texas. The singer owns the Chrysalis Ranch outside Tioga. He had been involved in single-vehicle accident shortly before the call was placed.

The 53-year-old was reportedly naked at the time of his arrest. Troopers smelled alcohol on his breath. The singer refused a blood and breath test. A search warrant was granted to police by a judge for a blood sample, which was taken at the local hospital.

Travis also faces a retaliation charge for allegedly threatening officers. At the time of his arrest, Travis reportedly threatened to shoot and kill the troopers. Defense attorney Larry Friedman told The Associated Press that Travis has a great deal of respect for law enforcement and has stopped drinking alcohol.

In December, the singer pleaded not guilty to a charge of assault, which was issued after he got into a confrontation with a man outside a church in Texas over the summer. The case is separate from his DWI case. His lawyer says the singer acted in self-defense.

Travis is known for hits such as "Hard Rock Bottom of Your Heart" and "Forever and Ever, Amen." The North Carolina native dropped out of high school at age 15 and had struggled with drugs and alcohol as a teenager. He has served time in jail for offenses such as drunk driving, stealing a van, breaking and entering, larceny and drunk and disorderly conduct.
