Is Queen Latifah the next Oprah?

The 40-year-old actress and rapper has been tapped to host and produce a new daytime syndicated talk show.

Actors Will Smith and wife Jada Pinkett Smith have been named as co-producers of the new series, which will be distributed by Sony Pictures Television and is set to premiere in the fall of 2013.

Queen Latifah, also known as Dana Owens, began her on-screen career in 1991, appearing on episodes of Smith's hit comedy series, "The Fresh Prince of Bel Air." She also appeared alongside Pinkett-Smith in the 1996 movie "Set It Off."

"We are excited to join forces with them as well as Sony Pictures TV on this new venture," Miguel Melendez, president of Smith's firm Overbrook Entertainment, said in a statement obtained by OnTheRedCarpet.com on Monday, October 31. "This forum is the perfect place to showcase Latifah's tremendous range of talents and unique ability to connect and inspire people."

No title has yet been announced for Queen Latifah's new show. She previously helmed her own series, "The Queen Latifah Show," which ran between 1999 and 2000.

She has also hosted the People's Choice Awards five times since 2007. It was recently announced that Kaley Cuoco of the CBS comedy series "The Big Bang Theory" will take over hosting duties next year.

In June, Queen Latifah, who hails from Newark, New Jersey, was inducted into the state's Hall of Fame for her work in entertainment (see photo, above).

Queen Latifah is also known for films such as "Chicago," which earned her an Oscar nomination in 2003, "Bringing Down the House" and "Taxi." She starred in the 2011 comedy film "The Dilemma" opposite Vince Vaughn and also reprised her voice role of Ellie in the animated film, "Ice Age: Continental Drift," which is set for release in 2012.</p
