Princess Beatrice's hat now on eBay (Photos)
The "gravity-defying hat" Princess Beatrice wore to the wedding of Prince William and Catherine has been put on eBay to be auctioned off and already has a starting bid of more than $8,100.
The headpiece, which features mock ribbons that resemble "tentacles," made headlines after she was first seen with it and even spurred its own Tumblr blog and Facebook fan pages.
Beatrice's hat is now on eBay (see listing) and has one bid of 5,000 pounds sterling, or $8,142. The auction is set to end on May 22 and is open to bidders around the world.
"I've been amazed by the amount of attention the hat has attracted," Beatrice, 22, said in a statement posted on the listing page. "It's a wonderful opportunity to raise as much money as possible for two fantastic charities. I hope whoever wins the auction has as much fun with the hat as I have."
The listing says the hat is "worn on the front hairline, secured by a clear wire headband that is easily disguised by the wearer's hair. This is a gravity-defying hat!"
Ferguson did not receive an invitation to the April 29 wedding. Beatrice and her other daughter Eugenie, 21, attended the wedding with their father and Ferguson's former husband, Prince Andrew.
In the United Kingdom, fancy hats with giant decorations are often seen at high-profile events, church services and especially at weddings, especially those thrown by the royal family (see photos of the best hats at the royal wedding).
