Pink: Academy invited me to perform at 2014 Oscars
According to Pink, she will be performing at the 2014 Oscar ceremony on March 2. The 34-year-old singer tweeted the news to her followers on Friday, Feb. 21.
"Big news!!! I'd like to thank @TheAcademy for inviting me to perform on the #Oscars on March 2nd!! #holycow," Pink wrote.
Oscar show producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron announced in a statement on Friday that the singer would be making a "special appearance."
"We are very excited to welcome Pink to the Oscar stage for the very first time," Zadan and Meron said in a statement. "She is regarded as one of the greatest voices in pop music and one of the best performers of her generation, and we are thrilled to have her join us for a highly anticipated moment on the broadcast."
Meron included Pink in a tweet on Friday along with other acts that have already been announced as performers.
"@Pink @BetteMidler @Pharrell @idinamenzel @U2 Karen O #Oscars sounds pretty great to me," he wrote.
Pink, who has won three Grammy Awards, made her big screen debut last year in the film "Thanks for Sharing." The movie starred Gwyneth Paltrow and Mark Ruffalo and Pink was credited in the film as Alecia Moore, her real name.
Pink is known for performing acrobatic stunts during her live performances. The Dolby Theatre, where the Oscar ceremony will take place, was altered by Cirque du Soleil before the opening of their production "Iris" in order to accommodate the technical demands of the acrobatic show, according to The Los Angeles Times. "Iris' ended its run in January 2013.
