Pete Wentz talks about split with wife Ashlee Simpson - Listen
Pete Wentz spoke candidly on a call to Ryan Seacrest's KIIS FM radio show on Monday where he dished on his new band, album and ex-wife Ashlee Simpson.
"Ashlee's been my best friend for five years; she's the mother of my child. I have nothing but love and respect for her and going through something like this isn't easy, but we're friends and the most important thing is to put our son first," Wentz said during the interview.
The two married on May 16, 2008 at her parents' home in Encino, California. Their son was born the following November. Last week, Wentz filed a petition in court asking for joint legal and physical custody of their son.
"It's hard to maintain your private life," Wentz said during his interview. "You want to do it, especially when there's a kid involved... It's like the one time on earth I'm like, 'Thank god Charlie Sheen exists.'"
However, Wentz says the couple's son is doing fine with the adjustment. "He's doing awesome," the singer said. "He's crazy. It's like something new everyday. Everything's like a new discovery for him. All of a sudden he's opening doors and all of a sudden he wants to paint."
